Garris Shrike was a notorious human male pirate and the mentor, later rival of Han Solo. Originally a bounty hunter, Shrike was unsuccessful at the job because his quick temper kept him from collecting many live bounties. Instead, he turned to pirating and other crime, and one point collected a group of orphans whom he used in confidence tricks and thefts, based aboard the decommissioned troopship Trader's Luck in orbit over Corellia. Early life[]
Garris Shrike was born on in 34 BBY to Dad Shrike and Mom Shrike. Little was known about Garris' childhood, but it was known that he was raised alongside his younger brother Larrad. In his teenage years, Garris bought a cat that he named Flapjack.

Garris Shrike liked control. As leader of the Trader's Luck clan, Shrike tolerated no dissent. Hot-tempered and impatient, he swore often and was quick to resort to violence when frustrated. Shrike was driven by revenge and old grudges, and he never forgot when someone did something to anger him. He tried to kill Kestrel because she had encroached on his territory and stolen items from him, and was relentless in his hunts for her. He had high expectations of those serving him and ran a tight ship, those who disappointed him in that regard were quick to feel his anger.
Shrike built up an incredible amount of hatred for Han Solo and blamed him for many of his problems. He swore revenge on Solo for killing Greedo and was willing to risk his life to get back at him. He also hated the Empire with a passion, and took any chance he had to spite them.
Throughout his career, Shrike showed a tendency to work alongside other hunters while searching for quarry, rarely ever participating in hunts and crimes alone. He frequently worked with his brother, his friend Greedo, and members of the Black Hole Gang. He also enlisted the aid of fellow hunters Zuckuss, 4-LOM, and Furlag while searching for Rebels on Ord Mantell, while he made great use of Gribbet during his time on Ord Mantell, having the him perform a multitude of tasks. In his final attempt to kill Solo, Shrike worked alongside several Tetsu clan members, including Greedo's brothers, Ludlow and Pqweeduk.[source?]
Few things brought Shrike pleasure, among them the suffering of those who angered him, good luck gambling, and Alderaanian ale. The last two were frequently combined and could lead to tremendous exuberance. He also liked to have his ego stroked, occasionally wearing an elaborate military uniform.
