Remus Harbright talking about his father[src]

Borert Harbright was a human male businessman and politician who served as both the owner of the conglomerate Salliche Agricultural Corporation and the Senator of the Ruan system prior to and during the events of the Yuuzhan Vong War.

Born in 18 BBY as a member of the influential House Harbright, Borert was also a Count on his homeworld. During adulthood he became the owner of the conglomerate Salliche Agricultural Corporation, which owned eighteen planets in different systems, including Yulant, Broest and Ruan, with Ruan being one of the headquarters of the corporation with another one on the planet Salliche.

Campaigning to combat corruption in the Senate, Harbright was also the chairperson of the Internal Activities Committee. He was also leader of one of the two main factions of the Senate in his time, the Core faction, being mostly opposed by the Rim faction led by Ainlee Teem of Malastare.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Borert Harbright was born on Ruan in 18 BBY. The young Borert, a count by birth on his homeworld of Salliche, was a prominent member of the House Harbright, one of the planet's most influential noble bloodlines. In accordance with Salliche law, Harbright reached the age of responsibility at seventeen, becoming a full adult independent of his parents.

Apart from his career, Harbright started a family by marrying a woman, with whom he sired two sons and a daughter. Together they lived on various systems within the Salliche Agricultural Corporation and later on Coruscant—the capital world of the New Republic—during his Senatorial service.

Career[]

After the Battle of Endor, Salliche Agricultural Corporation workers on many planets staged a rebellion destroying important assets of the company. To avoid further problems like that, Salliche Ag replaced a great amount of its staff with droids. It was then that Borert Harbright began to run Salliche Ag's daily operations. Borert named his cousin Dees Harbright senior vice president of marketing for Salliche Ag.

Harbright joined galactic-wide politics when he was elected as Salliche Ag's delegate representing Ruan in the New Republic Senate, the main legislative and executive council of the New Republic. He occupied a highly prestigious position, since the systems he represented were of the Core Worlds—a group of prestigious planets located around the center of the galaxy—and its delegation held considerable power in the Senate Rotunda. Whilst staying on Coruscant, Harbright was known to visit the Coruscant Opera House, like many other politicians of the time. He notably attended a representation of The Brief Reign of Future Wraiths, a Corellian opera performed by a touring Bith company.

After the Yuuzhan Vong War broke out, Salliche Ag feared that the invaders would overcome the New Republic and then destroy their planets, and lives, because of their technological heresy. Thus, Salliche Ag decided to get rid of techno-workers and tools, hoping to get some preferential treatment from the Yuuzhan Vong. In fact, they even planned to offer the droids to the invaders as a sacrifice. Salliche Ag decided then to 'accept refugees' in exchange for their workforce. Harbright was glad to explain that this maneuver allowed them to claim "handpicked production".
